Hi everyone, Tomer here. I’m happy to announce that I’ve joined Flori Ventures as Co-Founder and General Partner. It was a simple decision, considering Flori’s a VC that invests in people who believe we can make a difference in this world.
Below are some initiatives I would like to be involved in — consider this as an open invitation to reach out to me.
Money has been an obsession of mine for the last few years — not owing money, but the idea of money and how it affects our lives. In ancient Hebrew, the word for money is “Dmei” which also means blood. This is because money to society is like blood to the human body — let it flow incorrectly and the whole body will collapse.
In 2014 while I was studying economics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and after listening to Bernard Lietar, I founded the “Jerusalem Lira” to create a sustainable economy between small Jerusalem-based businesses. This was a natural step to become part of the Bancor team, with the understanding that liquidity is crucial if we want to create scalable and sustainable economies.
I then joined GoodDollar.org, which made perfect sense — combining the knowledge of liquidity and community efforts to create Universal Basic Income (UBI) that reached 183 countries around the world.
I believe that money in its current form has turned to a new System-of-Control designed to maintain the current balance of power.
First and foremost, 1.7B people are unbanked. About half of the world’s population is living on less than $5.50 a day.
Second, this isn’t to say that the banked people are guaranteed prosperity. While countries are proud to show off their GDP, it’s only a small percentage of society who enjoys it, while the rest of the “middle class” struggles to make a living.
Lastly, this is all happening while our planet goes through an ecological and environmental crisis.
Money is a technology, and as such, can be reimagined to reshape our social and financial structures. That’s why we founded Flori Ventures, a seed-stage venture fund that partners with founders who are creating a more innovative, regenerative, decentralized, and inclusive financial system. Being a part of the Celo ecosystem is only natural for us, as we share the common mission of building a financial system that creates the conditions for prosperity — for everyone.
Initiatives That Will Change the World (& That I’d Love to Support)
Free money — I believe that in the future, our day-to-day acts will simply reward us with money. A few use cases of this movement would be:
Rewarding land & climate conservation — The value of land today can only be determined by the ability to extract natural resources from it, or by building something on it — both being the opposite of the value land can provide us as a society.
I believe in the future there will be multiple monetary systems rewarding people for land conservation efforts. For example:
Community Collaboration — Blockchain technology will be the technology that will solve the tragedy of the commons. In the future, a bigger share of the wealth will be managed as a common resource rather than privately in the forms of DAOs, community currencies, community NFTs, and more.
